How do I monitor my tyre pressures?

Your BMW comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, which constantly checks each tyre is at its optimum pressure. If it finds a tyre needs additional air or has developed a puncture, a warning will be signalled on the instrument display. Tyre pressure information is conveniently displayed on the inside pillar of the driver’s door – match your tyre size and load level to find the required pressure in the table. Once each tyre is at the correct pressure, it’s quick and easy to reset the system. Simply turn on the ignition and whilst stationary on level ground, select ‘Vehicle Status’ on the car’s display screen and confirm the ‘Perform Reset’ option. This prompts the system to recalibrate and then performs a new tyre pressure check for a few minutes after you drive away. A confirmation message lets you know when the process is complete, and the new pressures will show as green on the vehicle graphic.

How do I activate the parking sensors?

Your BMW is equipped with both front and rear parking sensors called Park Distance Control, or PDC. The sensors monitor the areas at the front and rear of the car and issue an audio and visual alert to potential obstacles. The system is automatically switched on when reverse gear is selected. It can also be manually turned on and off by pressing the Park Assistant button located by the gear level. The volume of the acoustic warning can be adjusted within the vehicle’s settings menu.

How do I set the cruise control?

The cruise control system is conveniently programmed using the buttons on the steering wheel. When it is safe to do so, simply press the button twice in succession, and the speed you are currently travelling at will be maintained. To adjust the speed, toggle the cruise control switch up or down. A light touch of the rocker increases or decreases your speed by one mile per hour at a time, a firmer press by five miles per hour. The speed selected will be displayed in the instrument panel. The system can be temporarily disabled by either applying the brakes or pressing the steering wheel button once. The green light on the speedometer display will change to amber. To resume cruise control, simply press the button labelled ‘RES’ to reactivate the system back to the previous speed setting. To completely switch off the system and take full control, simply press the cruise control button twice in succession.

How do I set the on-board computer?

The on-board computer information is displayed within the driver’s instrument panel. By pressing the button at the end of the left steering stork, you can scroll through the various measurements and change the information that is displayed. The measurements can be manually reset using the iDrive controller – just select ‘My Vehicle’* from the main menu, ‘Driving information’ and then ‘On-board computer’. In addition to the standard on-board computer information, your BMW also includes a journey computer. By default, these values will accumulate over time and show an average figure. If you would prefer these figures to automatically reset at the start of each journey, this can be changed by selecting ‘My Vehicle’, ‘Driving information’ followed by ‘Trip computer’. Tilt the iDrive controller to the left and select ‘Automatic reset’.
