Colin Turkington is one of the biggest names in British motorsport and is regarded as one of the greatest touring car drivers in the world. He is the current British Touring Car Champion after claiming his fourth crown in sensational fashion in October 2019. Turkington’s glory last year secured his place in the record books as he became the most successful BTCC driver of all time, alongside Andy Rouse.
Born in Northern Ireland, Colin now lives close to Silverstone Circuit with his wife and two sons. He began his career with cadet karting at 10 years old before moving on to car racing throughout his teenage years. Turkington secured championship wins in Northern Ireland which he then followed up with further success in the UK.
Throughout his BTCC career, Colin has secured 51 race wins, 20 pole positions and 56 fastest laps. He has 5 Independent Championships to his name alongside the coveted 4 overall titles.
Most of Colin’s success has come with West Surrey Racing, the outfit that now operates Team BMW. Turkington was crowned champion for the first time in 2009, a feat he repeated in 2014, 2018 and most recently in 2019.
2019 was one of the most widely recognised moments for the Team BMW driver as he picked up multiple awards for his incredible success. Highlights included the Autosport ‘National Driver of the Year’, Autocar ‘Hero award’, Belfast Telegraph’s ‘Outstanding Achievement award’ and the British Racing Drivers Club ‘Fairfield Trophy’ for an outstanding performance.
