BMW Vision iNEXT BMW Vision iNEXT

All-electric, highly automated and fully connected, the BMW Vision iNEXT has completely redefined autonomous driving and interior design. Yet it’s about so much more than innovation and aesthetics; it’s about feeling as at ease in the driver’s seat as you would in your own home. Introducing a visionary driving experience that makes the road your favourite destination.

Thanks to its interplay of fine woods, hand-woven jacquard fabric and Alcantara in Purus Rosé, the interior is especially inviting.

A unique floating centre console offers a particularly special highlight. Its fine, open-pore wood surface with jacquard fabric sits upon an illuminated crystal shell that stretches to the rear compartment, adding a further touch to the lounge-like atmosphere.

Large surfaces and precise lines make the car appear as if it was made from one piece. The Liquid Greyrose Copper exterior gradually changes from warm copper to dark rose and exudes dynamic flair even when standing still.

The windscreen merges seamlessly into a large panoramic roof, giving the body a light appearance and opening up the interior even more. The large, interlinked double-kidney grille and blue accents hint to its BMW i genetics.

“BMW i exists to generate creative, pioneering ideas which transform the way we think about mobility. The BMW Vision iNEXT marks another next big step on that journey of transformation, showing how more intelligent vehicles can make our lives easier and more beautiful.”

Adrian von Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design

At first glance, the only displays are in the driver’s area. In the future, technology will no longer be the focus; people will be. Surfaces such as wood or fabric are controllable via gesture or voice control, so digital technologies only become visible when the driver or passengers want to use them.

Intelligent Personal Assistant

Controlled by voice command, the Intelligent Personal Assistant knows all of the vehicle’s capabilities and provides interactive advice, learning over time and adapting to your behaviour. It is seamlessly interlinked with BMW’s digital ecosystem, making it possible for drivers to control their smart home systems.

Intelligent material

Thanks to Shy-Tech, unexpected surfaces can instantly transform into extraordinary user interfaces. For example, the Jacquard cloth in the rear comes to life at the touch of a finger and allows music playback to be controlled using various gestures, which are given visual emphasis by LEDs that light up underneath the cloth.

Intelligent Beam

Intelligent Beam is a ground-breaking reinvention of the modern screen, creating interactive projected surfaces within the interior. The intelligent light recognises objects and follows them. For example, text in a printed book can be supplemented by images and interactive graphics, all of which can be controlled by touch.

BMW Personal CoPilot BMW Personal CoPilot

BMW Personal CoPilot technology lets you decide who drives the BMW Vision iNEXT. In “Boost” mode, you take the wheel. In “Ease” mode, your BMW Vision iNEXT handles the roads with highly automated driving.

In “Boost” mode, the cockpit and steering wheel are clearly positioned for the driver’s convenience. When transitioning to “Ease” by voice command or by touching the BMW logo on the steering wheel, the steering wheel moves back to provide more room and the pedals sink in to create a flat surface on the floor. The driver and front passenger can then turn to face the other passengers in the back.

The BMW Vision iNEXT comes from a dream to harmonise futuristic technologies in a modern living space. The design is the result of an internal competition. BMW designers competed using their hand-drawn sketches and visualisations and, through many rounds, the best designs were chosen until one was selected for implementation. Up to 18 months passed from the ideation stage to the final concept car.
