BMW M fans have something to get excited about. In Garching near Munich, home of BMW M GmbH, work is being carried out on a new prototype and, for the first time in history, it appears that the model range will be complemented by a BMW M3 Touring. Still in the early stages of development, which is normally about two years, the first BMW M3 Touring prototype has now entered into the test driving phase, which means that it has ultimately been given the green light for series development.
NOT THE FIRST TIME.
This is not the first time that BMW M GmbH has been fascinated by M-specific performance combined with the increase in available space of a Touring model. Exactly 20 years ago, a corresponding prototype was launched based on the third generation of the BMW M3. In the sixth generation of the BMW M3, it will not only be a theoretical consideration.
WHAT WE KNOW.
The 6-cylinder M TwinPower turbo engine beneath the bonnet has been set. Also, 5 doors and a highly variable luggage compartment is assumed. Other than this, all we know is that this will be the first time that a premium mid-range class estate car will offer both racing-oriented performance and everyday practicality.
