BMW X CLIMB TOUR MAKES A BOLD STATEMENT.

The new BMW X2 made its way around the UK, but not where you'd have necessarily expected to have found it. It was only fitting that BMW's Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) should celebrate its launch somewhere that resonates with what it stands for, which is why we chose the UK's most daring indoor climbing and bouldering centres.

WHAT IS BOULDERING AND WHY IS IT ON THE RISE?

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing performed on artificial rock walls – also known as boulders – without the assistance of ropes and harnesses. Much like climbing real boulders outdoors, it requires technique, balance, strength and mental 'puzzle-solving' in order to navigate the tricky rock sequences, but has the added safety of crash pads, briefings and qualified instructors.

Thanks to its fun, low-impact all-over body workout, bouldering is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to the gym. Suitable for brave beginners and adventurous experts alike, it has a multitude of benefits including: reducing stress, improving problem solving skills and increasing strength. It's also a great place to meet new people and to join a community of like-minded people.

“Indoor climbing is the safest way to do what people perceive to be an extreme sport, in a relatively benign environment,” explains Rob Adie, the climbing walls officer for the British Mountaineering Council. “It has also definitely replaced gym use - it's a social experience, rather than just being stuck on a treadmill.”

THE BMW X CLIMB TOUR.

The tour was a huge success, having made its way through Bristol, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Surbiton and Newcastle Upon Tyne. The BMW X Night was a particular highlight of each event, providing a live DJ set, light show, a competition on the BMW X Route and bouldering with the help of professionals.

Some of Britain's best up-and-coming climbers were also in attendance, including the likes of Leah Crane and Gracie Martin who performed exciting tricks on and around the new BMW X2. The BMW team were also on-hand to answer any questions about the vehicle.

The BMW X Climb tour ran until 15 April at bouldering centres across the UK. Find out more about the BMW X2 or book a test drive today.
