Are public charging stations faster than charging at home?

Charging stations offer either AC Fast charge or DC Rapid charge. BMW plug-in hybrids only use AC Fast charge (not DC Rapid) and, depending on the model, will charge to 80% capacity in 2 - 3 hours.
