SUCCESS FOR BMW AT TOP GEAR ELECTRIC AWARDS.

BMW’s ever growing range of electric vehicles has enjoyed a successful night at the Top Gear Electric Awards 2022. Picking three awards, including the Electric Lifetime achievement, Best Luxury Electric and the Best Electric Executive Car, it demonstrates the quality and ambition that BMW is bringing to the new driving category. Check out what the judges from Top Gear had to say.

ELECTRIC LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: THE BMW i3

"BMW still deserves massive credit for putting it into production in the first place. It will become a modern classic…” - says Ollie Kew, Top Gear.

On why Top Gear gave the award to the BMW i3, Kew also said: “…the i3 is more spacious, more efficient and 300kg lighter than today’s Honda e. Because BMW spent millions making everything bespoke amid a worldwide economic recession – even the wiper mechanism and all of the suspension is purely for the i3 – so it could be as low-mass and parsimonious as possible.”

BEST LUXURY ELECTRIC CAR: THE BMW iX

"It shows off a pure electric drivetrain to best effect…  Luxury isn’t about showing off - it's about turning inward and delivering for those onboard.” - says Tom Ford, Top Gear.

On why Top Gear gave the award to the BMW iX, Ford also said: "It’s a mood-modifier, and that’s a huge compliment when it comes to navigating the modern world - something that feels like true luxury. ...the idea that the iX makes technology butler-ish - there when you need it - rather than endlessly in-your-face is an absolute winner.”

BEST ELECTRIC EXECUTIVE CAR: THE BMW i4

"This is the sort of car that, decades ago, built BMW's reputation.” - says Paul Horrell, Top Gear.

On why Top Gear gave the award to the BMW i4, Horrell also said: "Because it shows how electric cars can throw off their shackles. They aren't eccentric or oddball or compromised. An i4 costs the same on finance as a 430i. The i4 began with one of the best all-round car formats from one of the best all-round carmakers. They electrified it with commitment and expertise, and the result is as good as or better than something fuelled by petrol."
